HUMAN POWERED SUBMARINE AT UW

our mission

People preparing a submarine at an indoor swimming pool

To foster innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence through the design and construction of a world-class human powered submarine.

What we do

The Human-Powered Submarine Team at UW is a student-led engineering team that designs, builds, and test a fully human powered submarine each year. Our multidisciplinary team applies real world-engineering concepts, innovation, and teamwork to build a submarine from scratch and compete.

SUBWOOFER II

Christening 2026

Our most technically intricate submarine to date, Subwoofer II has been in development for over 6 months. Featuring interchangeable electronic and mechanical control systems, an interchangeable counter-rotating or variable pitch propeller, pneumatic safety systems, and a shining new hull, this new submarine is a testament to the hard work of the almost 100 HPS members that came together to build it.
